CONNEMARA, County Galway

Connemara - you might think it is just a rugged area with lots of stones, turf and a few mountains, but it is much more than that! It is a very beautiful natural landscape. Come in and enjoy my pictures!

Connemara - man möge denken, das ist nur ein unwirtliches Gebiet mit vielen Steinen, Torf und ein paar Bergen, aber es ist viel mehr als das! Es ist eine wunderschöne naturbelassene Landschaft. Komm herein und genieße meine Bilder!

 The weather was great this Easter weekend! It was partly cloudy on Saturday and Sunday, but we also had lots of sunshine inbetween and it was nice and warm. On Monday the sky was blue and bright, but unfortunately we had to drive homewards, but we did it slowly.

Das Wetter war wunderbar an diesem Osterwochenende! Es war am Samstag und Sonntag teilweise bewölkt, aber wir hatten auch viel Sonnenschein dazwischen und es war herrlich und warm. Am Montag war der Himmel total blau, aber unglücklicherweise mußten wir langsam an die Heimfahrt denken.

I saw lots of Rhododendron bushes in Connemara, I was wondering how the landscape looks like in May and June, when they are in full bloom and when fresh green grass is covering the stones.

Ich sah viele Rhododendronsträucher in Connemara und ich fragte mich, wie die Landschaft wohl im Mai und Juni aussehen mag, wenn sie in voller Blüter stehen und wenn saftiges grünes Gras die Steine bedeckt.

 Kylemore Abbey

Westport House was built in the 18th century on the ruins of the castle where Grace O'Malley or Granuaile, the "Pirate Queen" lived about two hundred years before. This grounds and the house are still in  family hands, her nieces in 17th line look after the property.

Westport House wurde im 18. Jahrhundert auf den Ruinen des Schloßes gebaut, in dem Grace O'Malley oder auf irisch "Granuaile", die Piratenqueen zwei Hundert Jahre davor lebte. Grund und Haus befinden sich noch immer im Besitz der Familie. Ihre Nichten in 17. Linie kümmern sich um die Erhaltung.

As there exists no image of Grace, this statue was made in recent times, only by using imagination how she possibly could have looked like.  In my own imagination she looked much nicer!

Da von Grace kein Bild existiert, wurde diese Statue kürzlich anhand einer Vorstellung kreiert, wie sie möglicherweise ausgesehen haben könnte. In meiner eigenen Vorstellung sah sie viel hübscher aus!

The park became a lovely theme park where children can play and be pirates themselves.

Der Park wurde zum hübschen Themenpark für Kinder, wo sie selbst Piraten sein können.

I definitely would recommend that park to families!

SPRING is here!

Though it does not look like it, it is SPRING TIME! Everyone is in love, even the birds! But the weather is not good this year, it is too cold and too dull for the season!

Is it still winter or already spring in Kerry?

Here are some photos of our last visit in County Kerry. We had every weather, from thunderstorm, to hail and snow, rain and even a few hours sunshine, sometimes all of that on 1 day!

Ein paar Fotos von unserem letzten Aufenthalt im Bundesland Kerry. Wir hatten jedes Wetter, vom Gewitter zum Hagel und Schnee, Regen und sogar ein paar Stunden Sonnenschein, manchmal hatten wir all das an nur einem Tag!

"King Puck" a male goat is crowned king, he reigns over the town for 3 days. 

There is a saying: "Killorglin, where the goat is king and the people act the goat".

This tradition started on August 10th, 1808 and was repeated every year since.

"King Puck", ein Ziegenbock ist gekrönter König, er regiert die Stadt 3 Tage lang.

Es gibt einen Spruch der besagt: "Killorglin, wo die Ziege der König ist und die Leute sich wie Ziegen benehmen".

Diese Tradition begann am 10.August 1808 und wurde bis zum heutigen Tag jedes Jahr wiederholt.

Winter in Ireland, heavy snow falls?

For this winter our weather frogs predicted severe weather. Well, we are still waiting for it, the same as we waited for the scorching hot summer last year, which never appeared.
You might think that it is normal that they get it wrong sometimes, but our climatologists never get it right. I can believe my own eyes better when I look out of the window, then I can trust in their predictions!
It was snowing in the West and North of the country in the past few days and there the snow even stayed on the ground because it was cold enough, but I did not see one single snow flake down here in the South East of Ireland - up to yesterday, but then the miracle happened - heaven opened and Mother Hulda shook out her feather-beds. Big snow flakes danced down from the sky, but unfortunately they disappeared immediately as soon as they touched the ground. The ferret cats which made themselves at home in our garden shed during the winter, looked curious out of the window of their house, wondering what that was. It was their first time seeing snow and they seemed to like it.
I normally would put a photo with this post, as I usually do with most of my posts, but  I have no wintry picture from this year, sorry!
