This weekend we decided to take the Ferry from Rossaveel in County Galway to visit Inishmore. I was looking forward to take nice photos from the island, but I noticed that I unfortunately had forgotten to bring the SD card. Good that it is possible to take photos with a simple mobile phone nowadays and that is what I did. The photos turned out ok, as you can see.
That was a factory for processing sea weed to get iodine from it.
Fort Angus, which was built to protect the island from invaders.
Amazing Cliffs, they are about 100m high and "almost" as nice as the Cliffs of Moher
Lots of visitors are exploring the island by bicycles, but as we did not know if it would rain, we preferred to take a tour bus. Thomas, the driver of the green bus, was a lovely chap. He showed us "his" island (above you can see the ruins of the seven churches) and he had lots of little stories to tell. The tour lasts about 3 hours and costs 10 Euro per person, which I find very reasonable for the service you get.
There are only about 800 people living on this peaceful, quiet island and it is obvious that the citizens are making their living mainly from tourism.
