Schlosshof in Lower Austria

Another nice trip with my son Alexander, his fiancee Tanja and my beautiful grandson Adrian. We spent a lovely memorable day in Schlosshof, which was rennovated recently and presented to  the public in a new style. You can walk through romantic gardens, view the castle inside and out, the children are allowed to visit the animal park and see the goats, chickens and Albino donkeys.

RIEGERS BURG

The Riegers Burg is a lovely castle on the top of a hill. It is located near to Zotters Chocolate Factory in Styria and you can either walk up by foot or take the lazy way and use a lift.

Willy Wonka or Sepp Zotter? Austrian Chocolate

Photos by Sabine Binder

This post is not about Ireland, it is about Austria instead. We were on holidays in the country where I was born. My daughter Sabine and her partner Michael invited us to the Austrian province of Styria, where we went to Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Well, the owner is not really Willy Wonka, but Sepp (Josef) Zotter, who created his factory with lots of  love for his product and a good sense of humour. All of his 150 different types of chocolate are produced, under very high standard, are completely biological and absolute Fairtrade.

You can sample every chocolate, but you should take small amounts only, because you will get sick otherwise, when you eat yourself through all the different variations. In this part of the factory the chocolate is presented like a Running Sushi and you can even find some crazy flavours like fish, cheese and tomato. Amazingly enough the tastes are not dreadful, as one might think.

There is a shop where you can buy all sorts of chocolates and surprise your family at home with a different taste of sweets. Maybe Chili Chocolate or one with mushrooms?
In another department are mini lifts, which transport all kind of chocolate bars and you can choose one to mix  with hot milk, supplied free by the factory. The result is a chocolate drink to your own taste.

Behind the Chocolate Factory is a huge park, where you can see  cows, sheep, peacocks, lamas etc. and you can relax on a hammock or play farmers golf, which is a light hearted family game where participants throw Wellingtons to land on various objects. On the way back to the exit you will find a cemetry for all the types of  chocolate, which are no longer produced. R.I.P.

Hook Head Lighthouse Co. Wexford

We had bad weather in Ireland for the past few days and we nearly forgot how a summer feels like. Though we did not have summerly temperatures today, at least we had sunshine and blue sky. That was lovely! This time I could take a photo of Hook Head Lighthouse without the usual grey.

It is very enjoyable to stroll around the Hook as there are some lovely views.

A journey to West Cork

As we finally got nice weather here in Ireland, we decided to head off to West Cork on the weekend. We had 3 days of sunshine, which was great, but it did not last long, Sunday was dull and grey again. Back to normal!

The first picture above shows the Farm House in Bantry, where we stayed for 2 nights. The second photo was taken from the window of our room in the B&B. Don't forget, you can view every picture larger, by clicking on it

May is the time of the year, where you see huge Rhododendron bushes everywhere, especially in hilly areas. My husband insists in calling them Rodidendrum. He thinks that sounds better and it would not fit in one of his favourite songs otherwise.

As we drove along the coast, we saw lots of nice places, where we had to stop and enjoy the lovely view.

Mizen Lighthouse

It was very windy when we passed the bridge and I was frightened the wind would blow me over the reling, so I marched with fast steps to the other side of the bridge, avoiding to look down the big drop.

View from the platform of the light house. Ausblick von der Platform des Leuchtturms.
I did not use any filters and I did not alter the photos, the deep dark blue of the sea and the sky was real.

I never saw a bridge over a sand bank before and wondered why they built that, but I found that a good idea, as nobody could get stuck in the wet sand.

I found the place where I could see myself spending my life in old days.

Crookhaven is the most beautiful place, it is so idyllic and peaceful, a real pleasure for the eye!

I was fascinated by the bright turquois colour of the sea, the lovely terrace houses and the little village with the 3 pubs itself

Gougane bearra, people are coming here for pilgrimage and weddings.

A stone circle on a field. A signs said that visitors have to look out for cows. I was not comfortable with the thought that we had to run with a big bull following our heels.
